Flooring Installation in Doncaster

Two things come up constantly with Doncaster floors. The older terraced and interwar properties around Hexthorpe, Balby and Wheatley usually have suspended timber floors, where loose or springy boards need screwing down before anything is laid over them — a floating floor telegraphs every bit of movement underneath it, and it is almost always the cause when a new floor creaks.

The post-war estates and newer developments around Cantley, Rossington and Edenthorpe are mostly solid concrete. Concrete needs a moisture barrier under laminate or LVT however dry it feels to the hand, and LVT in particular is unforgiving about flatness — a screed with waves in it will need levelling compound first or the tiles will show every dip.

Village properties towards Tickhill, Sprotbrough and Bawtry often have stepped or split-level layouts and original stone thresholds. In those houses the transitions between rooms are the fiddly, time-consuming part rather than the open floor area.

Across all of them, kitchens, bathrooms and utility rooms are better in LVT, vinyl or lino than in laminate, because laminate's fibreboard core does not survive standing water. Putting that right after the event is one of the more common flooring jobs we get asked to do.
